Science Writing Unit: Personnel

Rebecka Bourn, PhD, Scientific Writing Unit Director

Dr. Bourn has 9 years of experience in scientific and medical writing, including 4 as a consultant specializing in R01, training, and program grant applications. Her scientific background is in the molecular biology and translational research of multifactorial diseases, and she has training on writing for patient outreach and medical education. She oversees the science writing unit, helps coordinate the SWU with related institutional services, mentors junior investigators in developing manuscripts and grants, provides workshops and other training on scientific writing, and helps prepare templates and tutorials for the online research toolkit. Dr. Bourn helps write collaborative, center, and infrastructure grants that synergize with the OSCTR.
